"I Seek You In the Sky" is a song about being at peace.
Even just trying to imagine clouds in my head makes me calm.
This song is inspired by a vacation to the beach with my family.
A lonely kite off Tybee Island, a favorite spot for my family in the summer.
Like most families, mine doesn't always get along.
But I remember one time in particular where Sis, Dad, and I were floating in the ocean while Mom watched from the sand, and we were all just laughing. It was such a simple moment, but one that was uncommon for us at that point in life.
I remember afterwards laying down my towel on the sand, lying back, and staring at the clouds. I also remember that I forgot to put on more sunscreen after getting out of the water. Oops.
So it has come to be that clouds remind me that no matter how many things may be going wrong in life, there is always something to be grateful for. Sometimes it is difficult to remember this; other times I just need to remember to look up.
It's odd to me how many people simply don't look up. It's quite a view.
If I am to be forthcoming, I can't take credit for the title of the song. When Nori and I were Skyping for the EP, I showed her this song and she typed "i seek you in the sky" in the message box. It's a title that feels more and more fitting every time I think about it. Thank you Nori.
A breif walk down the road from my house will yeild this view.
I wanted this song to feel like a daydream.
At the end of the song you can hear the piano player take his foot off the sustain pedal, get up, and walk away.
Like any daydream, we snap, rather than drift, out of our formless thoughts, and I wanted the song to end just the same.
Recording "organic" piano.
Most of the background sounds and voices on the track are recordings from vacations with my family. A good bit of the recordings, honestly, were done with my iPhone. You can hear my sister laughing, the wind coming in from a rolled down window, feet walking in the sand, conversations on the pier - just to name a few.
As you can imagine, this song carries a lot of sentimental value for me, and it's one of the few songs I deliberately go back to.

I hope this song makes you feel as at peace with yourself as I did that day at the beach.
One of the best feelings in the world.
